Summer Staycation in Utah

This post may contain affiliate links.

We do not go on a lot of vacations in our family  we tend to stay close to home and enjoy the local events in the summer. Utah has some wonderful summer activities to enjoy. If you are short on money or prefer not to travel, I have some ideas for a great staycation in Utah.  What is a staycation?  When you stay home but visit all of the wonderful times around you. The best part is, you don’t have to pack and you sleep in your own bed) Wherever you live in Utah, there are some wonderful things to see and do.

Utah Staycation

I am a little south of Salt Lake City and there are always a lot of great events and activities going on up there. There are sporting events concerts and museums happening regularly. For a complete and updated calendar of events there is a great site I like to visit called Visit Salt Lake. It is also fun to just take the kids to the city and ride the train as well as experience a bigger city experience.

If it is nature you are looking for, there is an abundance of wonderful nature areas parks and camping sites. Being surrounded by mountains, Utah has such beautiful natural scenery. There is skiing in the winter, or hiking and camping in the spring and summer. Or if you just want to see some beautiful haute without much effort you can visit the botanical gardens. There is a wonderful garden at Thanksgiving Point and another amazing one in Salt Lake called Red Butte Gardens. Both of these also have outdoor concerts in the summer.

One thing I love about Utah in the summer is all of the fun festivals that are going on. It is a tradition that each city holds their own city festival full of fun festivities. There are races, carnivals, concerts, parades, fireworks, outdoor markets, and more. There seems to be something fun going on each weekend. We love going to the different festivals close each summer.

The Fourth of July is an especially exciting event in Utah. Each year at BYU they hold the Stadium of Fire. It is in the football stadium and always has a famous musician to perform. This year it is Carrie Underwood. There are fireworks, a concert, other performances, comedians, jets fly over, it is an extraordinary event!!  If you cannot afford to spend the money for the ticket price, you can get a great show sitting outside to watch!

There are water parks and theme parks close by to visit here, too. We have Lagoon– which is a great theme park as well as Seven Peaks– a fun water park. We like to get a summer pass to seven peaks each summer and take the kids a few times.
