It’s Autumn time and the colors are splendid where we live. I love the crisp Autumn air and the wonderful smells and colors. I felt inspired to make something beautiful that reflected this! My daughter and I made this Autumn Tree Weaving Craft with a small tree branch, yarn and felt.

How to Make the Autumn Tree Weaving Craft:

To make this autumn craft with your kids, you will need to start by cutting a bendy tree branch. I cut it from the tree so it was still flexible. My branch was was about 3 feet long.

Bend your stick into a circle.   Tape the ends together with a few pieces of masking tape.

Next you need 15 pieces of brown(ish) yarn for the branches. We had a brown yarn that was variegated.  Cut the yearn about twice as long as the width of the circle.

Tie the yarn pieces along the top of the circle, knotting it twice.

Next, take all of the pieces and knot them at the bottom of the circle in one place, right where the tape is.

Now you get to weave!  I used different autumn colored strips of felt for ours, but you can use whatever you have. Bulkier fabric tends to work a little better. I cut our fabric strips about an inch wide and long enough to weave all the way through with extra for the ends to tuck back inside.  This keeps the pieces in place better.

Continue weaving until you fill it up with fabric strips- you can scrunch them tight together to fill it up more.

To make the trunk, just take the ends from your yarn and wrap them up around the pieces making them into branches. Tie off the ends and trim them down.
