Lincoln and Washington President Cookies

It is time for the Poppins Book Nook- the virtual monthly book club hosted by Enchanted Homeschooling Mom. This month’s theme is presidents. We have a couple of favorite books that I wanted to share with you this month: George Washington and Abraham Lincoln by Ingri and Edgar Parin d’Aulaire. These authors make some of our favorite books!   We have been reading them this month for President’s Day. My kids have really been loving them and can’t wait to read more of them together. To go along with it we made some cute little President Cookies.

 Learning About the Presidents

What I love about these two books is that they teach the history of Lincoln and Washington in such a fun and interesting way. They tell the stories of their lives in a way that keeps kids begging for more. The illustrations in the books are beautiful, too. There are pictures on every page.

Now for our yummy President Cookie treat!

To make these President cookies we used vanilla Wafer cookies, mini chocolate chips, mini marshmallows, and mini chocolate bars.

I cut the mini marshmallows in half  for the wig and attached them  with melted chocolate.  Lincoln’s beard is made from mini chocolate chips. His hat is a fun size Hershey bar cut into pieces.

The kids loved helping me put these all together. What a sweet way to learn about the presidents!

I also have a round-up post with tons of President’s Day Learning Activities. I made a Free Sort the Coins by the Presidents printable that you can get in that post.
