Make Your Own Picasso

We have been having fun learning about Pablo Picasso this month.  We like to do art projects to go along with our artist studies.  Picasso is a fun artist to try to recreate his style because they are so different from the norm.

When we study an artist, we love looking through a variety of his paintings and then choosing one particular one to replicate. Since he has a lot of self-portraits and other portraits we decided to go that route.

Here is a Picasso art project we did to resemble his art work.  We drew self portraits of ourselves in really bright colors.  Once we were finished coloring them, we cut them up and pieced them back together in a strange way.

I think they turned out great. The kids really thought they looked like Picasso’s art. It was a great way for them to really learn about and understand his artwork!

Here are some of the great Picasso resources we have been using for our Art study:

Free printable World’s Greatest Artists curriculum from Confessions of a Homeschooler.
Discovering Great Artists, by MaryAnn F. Kohl & Kim Solga

  1. That’s awesome! We are just wrapping up a study of Picasso too =-) We also made a picture, cut it up & glued it back together. I don’t think my son realized what we were going to do because he started crying when I started pasting it back together wrong. Maybe he thought it was going to be a puzzle…..he gets it now….and now I have that funny memory!! Thanks for linking up to Living Life Intentionally Linky Party =-)
