How to Make the Melted Crayon Valentine Garland:

To make this simple valentine craft, you’ll start by choosing a few colors of crayons. Use up your old crayons here!  Peel the broken ones and put them to good use!

This is NOT necessary, but you might want to encourage kids to pick ones that blend well together to make this valentine garland look a little nicer. They will like it better.

Use a small hand pencil sharpener (non-electric) or cheese grater to make the crayon shavings.

Cut a few pieces of wax paper and grate the shavings right onto the wax paper.

Cover the crayon shavings with another piece of wax paper. Heat up an iron.   Lay down an old towel and place the wax paper on top, folding the towel over the top of the wax paper. It sometimes oozes out a little, so use an old one that you don’t mid getting messy.   Iron over the towel for a minute.  The crayon shavings melt pretty quickly.

Remove the iron and the towel and let your creation cool.  Then let the kids cut into heart shapes. We drew them first with a black marker to help them cut the shapes.

Hole punch on both sides of the heart and tie together with red or pink ribbons. It makes a fun Valentine’s Day garland!

This is such a simple & cute Valentine’s Day craft for kids!  My kids were thrilled with the results and so proud to hang it up!!
