About Must-Have Marvin!
Must-Have Marvin, written by Christy Ziglar and illustrated by Luanne Marten is The second title in the Shine Bright Kids series. It teaches children the great message that people are more important than things.
Marvin loves new things—he especially loves finding the latest, greatest, most awesome new things! He is always thinking about the next thing that he wants. One of Marvin’s friends has a Super Galactic Robot that Marvin wants SO bad. He becomes obsessed with wanting it and finds himself forgetting to do the things that matter in his life. He lets down his friends when they need his help and nearly loses their friendship.
Through a chat with a kind and wise neighbor, Marvin learns the important life lesson that people are more important than things. He is also able to help out his friends in the end because of her help.
My kids loved this book! I love the message it teaches them. I constantly feel overwhelmed in my life with things and have been working to simplify and eliminate stuff in my life. This book teaches that message to my kids in a fun way- that things don’t matter as much as they think they do. Also, it teaches them that they do not need every cool thing that they see! We also like the little star that follows Marvin around on each page. The star changes moods depending on how Marvin is behaving. It’s a great discussion starter!
