Power-Packed Snacks for Kids

Having my kids at home all day usually means that we do a lot of snacking.  Also, with back-to-school in full force, kids need great after-school snacks! I am very selective about the snack foods that I bring into our home.  In my mind, a snack should be filled with nutrition to keep their bodies going strong until the next meal.  I have some power-packed snacks that we try to always keep on hand for the times when kids are just “dying of hunger”!

What makes a snack healthy

I hear a lot of parents complain that their kids don’t want healthier snacks. My philosophy is that if it isn’t in the house, they can’t choose it.  I fill our cupboard and fridge with healthy options, then the kids will choose those things when they need a snack!  It is also really important to teach your kids why some snacks are better than others. Tell them about the nutrients in the food and why it is good for them.  Tell them why foods that are not healthy are not good for their bodies.  It is really good for kids to have an understanding of these nutrition from an early age!  This will help them make good choices for the rest of their lives.

Horizon Healthy Snacks

Horizon has a tasty line of snacks that we have purchased may times for our snacking pleasure! They are whole grain and full of better ingredients than most of the options out there for kids. Plus my kids think they are the yummiest!  They love their little milk boxes.  I love them because they are portable and full of nutrients. We can take them on the go or have them at home.

What are your favorite healthy snacks in your home?
