I am a bit of a sewer. I enjoy making things from time to time and even taught some sewing classes back when I was a Home Ec. teacher. My little girl who is 7 just begs to learn to sew. She gets so excited with every opportunity to learn. I find myself saying no too often, though! It is a lot of work to think up projects that are simple enough for her to do. It can also be time consuming. But, I do really want her to know how to sew. I think it is such a valuable skill for life. A while back we reviewed a sewing DVD that we loved called Pixie Candy’s Projects. We were thrilled when we were given the chance to review another of the DVD’s in the series, Pixie Mandy’s Projects. (We received this for free in exchange for a review). These Sewing DVD’s are perfect for teaching an eager little girl (or boy!) how to sew. Plus, they make it EASY for me!
Katrina Marie is the teacher of these fun sewing movies. Each DVD has several projects that she teaches. They each have a Pixie name with a color theme which is fun for my daughter (Pixie Candy, Mandy, Tandy, Sandy, Andy, Zandy). She begins teaching you how to make the patterns for the projects, and telling you all of the needed supplies (which are very minimal). She then has a step-by-step tutorial for each project that you can watch together. They are simple to follow. They projects start out easy and progress to be a little harder by the end of the movie.
In the Pixie Mandy DVD the projects include a Doll Pillow, Coin Purse, Chic Tote, Sweet Skirt & Rosy Ribbon. We have started by making the doll pillow. This was an easy and exciting one for my little girl because she got a new doll for Christmas and wanted her to have her own pillow. She was able to do this whole project on her own with only a little direction. We finished it in about 15 minutes total. Then she proceeded to watch the rest of the movie so she could decide which project she wanted to do next!
She was so happy and proud of her finished project!!
