Artist Study- Monet

This post may contain affiliate links.

This was my week to teach at our homeschool co-op and my topic was art.  I chose to do a lesson on Claude Monet.  The kids (and I) had so much fun learning about him and making art!  Here are some resources that I used teach the Monet Artist study lesson.

Books to use to Study Monet:

Touch the Art: Count Monet’s Lilies by Julie Appel and Amy Guglielmo
Usborne the Children’s Book of Art by Rosie Dickins
Art Treasury by Rosie Dickins
30 Famous Painting Cards

Monet Art Project for Kids:

We enjoyed recreating his Japanese Footbridge painting.  To create it, we used masking tape to make the bridge and painted all around it.

Once the painting is dry, peel the tape off carefully and it leaves a white bridge behind.

The Denver Art Museum has some very fun ideas in their Monet’s Magical Garden lesson plan- it is geared towards very young children with fun interactive ideas.
Another really fun resource is the movie Linnea in Monet’s Garden– it a book that has been made into a DVD.  The movie is available on Netflix if you subscribe to it.   You can also get the book or movie on Amazon.

  1. Did you have any trouble peeling the masking tape off the paper?

We love the book Linnea in Monet’s garden. I hadn’t realized it was made into a movie. I’ll have to check that out.
