Brain Chase- Summer Learning Adventure

Can you feel summer creeping in? Summer = freedom around here.  We usually take a pretty big break from school in the summer and boy do we look forward to it!  But, since education is kinda a way of life in our house, there are always lots of sneakily educational things still going on. I am stealthy that way. This summer we are trying out a summer adventure that I am pretty sure will be the best thing ever.  Have you heard of Brain Chase?  We are LITERALLY counting down the days until our Brain Chase adventure will begin. Let me tell you a little about it!

Brain Chase- Summer Learning Adventure

Brain Chase is a 5-week online summer learning challenge for kids in grades 2-8. But it is not just any old online learning. It is a global treasure hunt. To solve the challenges, you have to practice your reading, writing and arithmetic. It is not boring, though, I can assure that. This is going to motivate your kids to get online and LEARN. What are they searching for?  Only a golden treasure and a $10,000 scholarship!!  I mean, who would not be motivated by that? My kids were literally jumping up and down when we watched the videos about it!

How Does Brain Chase Work?

This summer the Brain Chase Adventure, The Sunstone of Cortes starts on June 22 at 9am Eastern. At that point, kids will log in and watch their first video introducing them to the challenge. They will also be given weekly challenges to complete.  They have a student dashboard tracking their progress. It can be done on computers and tablets.

Each week there will be four tasks: read for 15 minutes daily, write a journal entry, earn 10,000 points on Khan Academy, and do a bonus challenge. When they complete all of their challenges, they unlock the next webisode with hidden pictures, numbers, and riddles to help them guess the treasure’s location. They are also partnering with Rosetta Stone this summer. You can choose a foreign language to study instead of the writing component.

There is also a fun storyline to follow. Mae Merriweather and her friends from the Grayson Academy of Antiquities are hot on the trail of the mysterious Sunstone of Crotes. To find it they travel all the way to the Himalayas, dive off the coast of Greece, and solve different riddles. However the quest ends up being more than they realized . . .

The Sunstone Quest is happening in really life, too. There is a real golden Sunstone of Cortes hidden somewhere and $10,000 buried somewhere on Earth. Every 24 hours, the adventurers can log in and guess where it is. The first one to guess within a 2-mile radius gets to travel to that destination with their family to claim the gold!!!
