Edible Chocolate Slime

Chocolate. Enough said.  No, but really, edible chocolate slime is another fun edible slime that you can feel safe letting your kids play with (and eat)! Did you see the Edible Starburst Slime I shared earlier? It’s been a hit!! We’ve also tried Marshmallow slime. Tasty!

Edible chocolate slime

This one is a little stickier and gooier, but still great fun! What I love about making these edible slimes is that I have no concerns about harmful ingredients. (Not saying pure sugar is the best for kids, but it is way better than borax, right?!) If your kids have clean hands, they can play and eat (usually both at the same time).

How to Make Edible Chocolate Slime:

Ingredients

  • 1 can of Sweetened & Condensed Milk
  • 3 Tablespoons of Chocolate Syrup
  • Cornstarch (called corn flour in the UK)
  • Chocolate Chips (extra mix-in)

Instructions

  1. Combine the milk, ¼ cup of cornstarch and chocolate syrup in a pot and cook over medium-low heat. Stir frequently. Bring to a boil and cook until thickened.
  2. Turn onto a surface dusted with cornstarch and let cool a few minutes.
  3. Knead the chocolate slime a few minutes in the cornstarch. You can make the slime thicker with more cornstarch or leave it thinner and stickier. This slime is going to stay VERY sticky.
  4. Mix in chocolate chips to add texture and variety if desired!
  5. Keeps in the refrigerator in a sealed container for a few days.

If you do not have cornstarch available, use flour in the thickening process not he stove, then powdered sugar when kneading it.

What is the science behind this?

The cornstarch is a thickener when heated. The heat causes the starch to bind with molecules of the milk, and the starch swells as it absorbs the liquid.
