We began a unit study on the movies last month. So far my pupils have written a essay on the lessons they learnt from Harry Potter. Yes we have now officially watched all the movies with white wine and festive chocolates and sweets already. Other fun activities include a themed Harry Potter birthday party with Butter beer and chocolate frogs in order to celebrate. In our history lessons we either do a question and answer session on the chosen movie in question.
We also do research on a historical aspect of the whole movie as well. For maths I get them to calculate the numbers of people who like to watch that entire movie. They then have to draw up a bar chart displaying their findings and so on. We usually do a mini survey in addition to answer that question.
In literature we compare key themes and make a few different lists of characters and events. As a part of our weekly geography class we learned a lot more about the cities in the actual film. And we talk about what it meant to be a good Christian. Yes they had to prepare either a short essay or report for me on that topic for their homework. We went on field trips.
