Making a Mini Office

This post may contain affiliate links.

Have you heard of a mini office before?  It is a few file folders connected together and covered with information that your kids are learning.  It is like a quick reference for them.  I made these mini offices for my kids and they love to look through them!  You can put so much information on them, and they fold right up to fit in a desk or notebook for quick use. You could focus on one subject, or like we did, put a whole variety of topics on it.  Once it is filled with all of the desired information, you can laminate it or cover it with contact paper for durability.

Here are some ideas of things to put on your mini offices for younger kids:

Hundred chart
Spelling words
Sight words
Cursive writing chart
Books in the Bible
Telling Time
Shapes

Math Symbols
Solar System
Parts of Speech

Presidents of U.S.
Foreign language terms

You can do this for your older kids, too… it isn’t just limited to elementary learners!

Here is how you make a mini office:

How to make a mini office for kidsYou will need at least 2-3 file folders.  2 folders will make a 3-panel mini office and 3 folders will make one with 4 panels.  Lay them together overlapping the flaps and glue them together. On my mini office with 3 folders, I cut off the tabs on the folders in the middle.  Some of the links below have detailed images with instructions if it doesn’t quite make sense.

Lots of the images on this one came from a pack of educational stickers I got at the dollar store.

The best part is you can cater them to each child and the things they are learning, or need extra help with.  It is a great tool for all levels of learners!

  1. This is such a great idea! I know IEW has one for their writing course, but a general one would be perfect for my kids. Thanks for sharing the links, it makes it so much easier to actually get it done.
