Map the Olympics

We love the Olympics so much!  When they come around every 2 years, I love to do olympic learning activities with my kids. This week we decided to map the olympics from the beginning to the present. We broke it up into the Winter and the Summer Olympics.

I made a printable set that includes world maps and flags with dates of all of the locations where the olympics have been held.  This is an awesome geography lesson for kids and also gives them some history in the process as they learn where the olympics have been held over the years.

How to Map the Olympics

Use my printable set I created and print the map and flags. You can print it in color or in black and white to be colored in. Cut out the flags and tape toothpicks or pins onto each flag. The flags I made have locations and dates underneath so kids know what each place is as they are mapping it. Be sure to not cut those off or it will be a lot harder to figure them all out.

We used two separate maps, one for the Summer olympics and one for the Winter olympics.  If you have a big map that you don’t mind poking holes in, you can use that instead. It gets kinda crowded on the  little map, but still works well!

We put our map onto a cork board for pinning.

I did this with my 10-year-old daughter and she loved it! She was so engaged and excited to learn where and when al of these different events were held. It was a good geography lesson for her as well. There were many countries she did not know how to find, so we spent time looking them up and finding them.
