Motivational Poems for Kids to Memorize

Did you ever memorize poems as a kid? I still remember some of the ones I memorized in school when I was young. Today I have some awesome motivational poems for kids to memorize.

Memory work has always been a part of our homeschool. Along with scriptures, motivational poems are some of my favorites to memorize with my kids. I have been searching out new ones for our family to memorize this year and I am really excited about the poems I have collected!

Motivational Poems for Kids to Memorize

I typed up the poems and have compiled them into printable notecards. I like to have our poems on notecards and laminated so they are durable and easy to grab and use.

I have a Mom binder that I use to keep all of our stuff in for our school days. I should do a post about that sometime. . .

This poetry set has 16 motivational poems. There are some that are really short and easy for young kids, and some are a bit longer for the older kids.

The motivational poems included are:

  • Thinking by Walter Wintle
  • Stick to Your Task
  • Striving by Margaret Sangster
  • Kindness by C.R. Gibson
  • Good Timber by Douglas Malloch
  • The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost
  • Yourself to Blame by Mayme White Miller
  • Dreams by Langston Hughes
  • Little Things by Julia Abigail Fletcher Carney
  • Barter by Sara Teasdale
  • Somebody Said It Couldn’t Be Done by Edgar A. Guest
  • Let Me Be
  • All the Water in the World
  • Be the Best of Whatever You Are by Douglas Malloch
  • Try Again by William Hickson
  • Three Gates by Beth Day

Each of these motivational and inspirational poems has a moral or a message for kids to learn.

Why We Memorize Poems:

I love memorizing these types of poems with my kids because when you memorize something, you remember it for years to come. They are helpful later in life when you are going through hard times, you can pull a poem from your memory. You can use them in talks or speeches and in lessons.

Also, memorization is a great for your brain in so many ways!

  • It challenges your mind.
  • Memorization helps you to focus on something.
  • It teaches you patterns and rhythms.
  • It can train your brain to remember things- you can get better at memorization as you practice it!
  • It frees up brain power to learn new things.
