Counting and math skills start as early as children begin learning speaking and vocabulary. Today I want to share some toddler and preschool math activities with you to help you enhance your young child’s learning experience.

Preschool Math Activities

Math is more than just addition and subtraction and solving formulas. Early math skills include sorting activities, number recognition, patterns and shapes activities. There are so many fun activities you can do with your toddlers and preschool aged kids!

My preschool math worksheets and activities include: so many fun activities to teach number sense, counting, counting mats, and more!  These counting  activities are foundational math skills that all children need to learn! See more at the bottom of this post.

These preschool printables and activities would also be great for kindergarten lessons. You could probably even get your busy toddler involved in these!

Also check out my post on our favorite hands-on math tools for teaching: including dice, dominoes, Lego, counting bears or toys, tangrams and more!

Teaching the preschool age is my favorite! It is all about learning through play. They are so curious, so eager to learn new things and so ready to spend time with their parents. In fact, the first thousand days are the most critical period for brain development that build the foundation for all future learning!  Make the most of it.

Sometimes this age can be challenging, though. Those of you with kids in this age range definitely know what I am talking about. It takes a lot of patience for mess and mistakes to teach these little cuties.   Pushing through those hard days makes the good days ALL that much sweeter!

Here are a couple of books that I love to use for ideas in our home. All are by Kathy Charner & are amazing resources. These are just a few in the series.

I decided to create some preschool math and counting activities for my daughter to help her increase and develop her math skills.

I have been working on a preschool alphabet learning series on my site this year and I thought it would be so much fun to incorporate a similar set of learning activities for numbers. I made some number recognition activities as well as some counting activities.

My daughter was thrilled with these activities and I love having those special learning moments with her.

This preschool math set includes so many fun ways to teach beginning mathematics to young children in your home education or classroom!

This pre-k math pack has counting activities such as numbers with dots on them. There are slo number counting cards, like a ten frame.  We played with them using buttons as counters, which also helps develop fine motor skills.  I also think it could be a lot of fun to do it with pom-poms, coins, beads or play dough if you laminated them first.
