Today I want to share with you a fun new beginning reading printable curriculum for first graders. Jill at Enchanted Homeschooling Mom created these darling little printable books and has them on her Members Only Site. I have posted a few times about her different printables and have to say I am really, really excited about this one. I have been using this curriculum with my Kindergartner who has been trying her hardest to learn to read this year. This little series of books has gotten her SO excited. She wants to do a new one every single day.
- 20 sight word interactive reader books with reading comprehension and progress bookmarks
- Flash cards for a word wall
- Go Fish Sight Word Game
- Reading in 1st Sight Word Board Game
- Teaching Tips
- Certificate of Completion with Prize
The books introduce a new word or two each time. Then they have these darling illustrations and stories. The new words are left out of the story so the kids can fill them in. At the end of the book it has little squares with the letters of each word for the kids to cut and glue into the book.
I love all of the clip art images that she used for the stories. Each one was fun and exciting to my daughter. She couldn’t wait to see what story was coming next!
Along with all of the stories, there are printable cards with all of the sight words to practice the words beyond the stories. They have little pictures that correspond with the stories in the books. These can be used as flashcards or on a word wall. We used them as flashcard practice to reinforce the words we learned.
There is also a go-fish game & a game board with all of the words on them! This is another fun way to practice the new sight words.
I just want to say that this program has been so wonderful for us! My daughter has not been this excited about reading in a while. She loves the characters and pictures. We have been using it along with our regular language arts program. It is recommended for first grade, and some of the books were a bit advanced for my kindergartner to read on her own, however she was happy to do them along with my help each day. She actually preferred to write the words on the pages instead of cutting out all of the squares, so we ended up doing that with most of our books. I think that is mostly just laziness on her part! 😉
These are part of the Member’s Only Site on Enchanted Homeschooling Mom. You can become a member for just a one-time $15 payment and get access to this as well as TONS of other great printables.
