I have had the chance to review the children’s educational website, Reading Kingdom this past month. I received a full subscription for up to 3 people. Reading Kingdom is designed to teach reading skills to kids ages 4-10 or preschool through 3rd grade level. It is also great for struggling readers, special education, homeschool, and ESL students.

The reading program was created by Dr. Marion Blank, one of the world’s leading experts in reading. He has a patented Six Skill Integrated Method that teaches all of the reading and writing skills together so they complement and reinforce each other at every level. These skills include sequencing, writing, phonics, meaning, grammar and reading comprehension. It is research based and proven to be very effective.

The website adapts to each child’s level based on skills tests and their answers throughout the lessons. The tests at the beginning choose the level where your child should begin the program. This way they can advance through quicker if they are reading more. It also targets the weaknesses of your child to help them learn these skills. The lessons take 15-20 minutes and can be done without parent supervision. It is recommended to be used 3-5 days per week. The lessons are bright and colorful, with fun animations that the kids really enjoy.

I had 2 of my kids working on it and was able to see how it worked at the differing levels that they were on. My daughter is six and really enjoyed using Reading Kingdom. She is still not confident in her reading and benefited the most from these lessons. It teaches her letter recognition, sounds, and even typing. It is also helping her to recognize punctuation as well.  She loves using the keyboard to find the letters and fill in the words.

My older son, who is almost 9 was also working through it. He is working in the second level of the program. This level is focusing more on word recognition and spelling. He loves working through and advancing to new levels. There is a score system that allows you to reach a new section when you achieve a certain amount of points. This motivates him to want to keep going and going so he can get the points needed. I think it’s great!!

They also have a parent section that allows you to track your child’s progress. You can choose to receive e-mails detailing their progress as well. There is a store on their website as well with more materials to purchase if you want- books, worksheets, handwriting and phonics programs. All of this additional material is completely optional, though.
You can try Reading Kingdom out for free for 30 days if you are curious.
After that the pricing it $19.95/month or $199.99/year. To add an additional child, it is half price.
