We have been enjoying the Rock N’ Learn DVD’s at our house lately. If you are looking for some fun educational cartoon movies for kids, you should definitely look into them and their site. I purchased a few of them a while back and my kids really loved them. They kept asking me when we could get more of them. So, I have to say that I was quite thrilled when the company wrote me to ask if I would like to review one of their DVD’s here on my site.  How could I resist? I was given the Sight Words Level 1 DVD free to review here.

What Are Rock N’ Learn DVD’s?

Rock N’ Learn has DVD’s on all educational subjects starting with preschool and the Alphabet moving on up through Elementary level. There are ones about science, math, social studies, language arts, phonics, reading, writing, foreign language, etc.  I am so impressed with their variety as well as the fun way that they present each subject. I love that they teach through song, because I think music always helps things to stick when learning a new concept.

Rock N’ Learn Sight Words

In the Rock N’ Learn Sight Words (level 1)  DVD, kids are taught over 60 common sight words (The pre-primer Dolch words, the top 20 from Fry’s and others) with songs, fun practice and entertaining characters.  It teaches the words in context that helps them know what the words mean. For example: the character sings about up and down while moving up and down. As they sing and say the words, they ave the words up on the screen for the kids to see and hear at the same time.  It the movie, the characters o on a treasure hunt that makes them follow the directions that they read on word cards.

It is recommended for kids ages pre-K and up and is about 50 minutes long. They have won many awards including Parent’s Choice, National Parenting Publications, Dr. Toy’s 10 Best Audio/Visual,  and Learning Magazine (as well as others).

My daughter who is in first grade adores this movie! I love that she can watch an engaging movie that is teaching her as she watches. We are excited to try out more movies in the series.

  1. I’m interested in any of the phonics and early reading ones as that is what we are working on right now. 😉 French might be fun too.

  2. The sight word levels 1-3 is intriguing. I have a special needs child that is very visual and wonder if this would help him grasp the concepts easier, and I’ve only seen phonics videos prior to this.
    Thanks for the opportunity!
