Looking for a fun way to kick off a new school year? This Back to School Family Feud game is a hilarious way to get kids talking, laughing, and thinking about all things school!

Whether you’re a teacher planning a first-day-of-school activity, a homeschool family celebrating the start of a new year, or a group looking for a fun back-to-school party game, this printable game is easy to play and requires very little preparation.

Kids will try to guess the most popular answers to questions about school supplies, lunch, recess, teachers, homework, and more.

And just like the classic game, the goal isn’t necessarily to give the right answer—it’s to guess what you think other people would say!

Back to School Family Feud

I’ve made several Family Feud-style games now, and they are always such a fun way to get a group laughing and talking together.

For this back-to-school version, I created questions centered around familiar parts of school life that kids can easily relate to.

The printable game includes 20 Back to School Family Feud questions, along with answers showing the most popular responses and the number of points assigned to each answer.

Each question has a total of 100 possible points, with more likely or popular answers receiving the most points.

Back to School Family Feud Questions

The game includes 20 fun, school-themed survey questions covering everything from the first day of school and classroom supplies to recess, teachers, lunch, and other familiar parts of school life.

Here are a few sample questions:

• Name something students are excited about on the first day of school.
• Name something you might find in a student’s backpack.
• Name something students like to do at recess.

Each question includes several possible answers with points assigned according to how popular the answers are likely to be. Every round adds up to 100 points, just like a survey-style Family Feud game.

How to Play Back to School Family Feud

I have two versions- large group play and smaller group or individual play.

For large group play, divide your group into two teams. You’ll also need one person to act as the host and keep the answers hidden.

Choose one player from each team to come to the front. Read the first question aloud and have the two players race to give an answer.

The player who gives the highest-ranking answer earns the opportunity for their team to play the round.

Team members then take turns guessing answers from the board. Reveal each answer as it is guessed and add the corresponding points to the team’s score.

If the team gives three incorrect answers, the opposing team gets one chance to steal the points by guessing one remaining answer.

Continue through as many rounds as you’d like. The team with the most points at the end wins!

To play individually or in smaller groups, I have a fill in answer sheet for people to write on their answers.

For a classroom with a large number of students, you can also divide kids into several smaller teams and simply take turns answering questions rather than following the traditional Family Feud format exactly.

A Fun First Day of School Activity

One of my favorite things about this game is that it gets kids interacting without putting anyone too much on the spot.

Traditional first-day icebreakers can sometimes feel uncomfortable, especially for quieter students. With Family Feud, everyone is focused on figuring out the answers together.

It’s a great option for:

• The first day of school
• Back-to-school parties
• Classroom morning meetings
• Homeschool groups and co-ops
• Youth groups
• Family game night
• Back-to-school open houses
• Brain breaks
• Indoor recess

You could even use a few questions at a time throughout the first week of school.
