Pick one theme per day, or mix and match with books, crafts, and snacks!
Teaching Tip: Playful Themes Build Engagement
Letter P has so many playful themes—pirates, popcorn, pets, and pink! Use what your child loves to keep them excited. Create a popcorn day with pretend popcorn games and snacks, or act out a pirate adventure with treasure maps and P-word clues.
The more kids can move, create, and engage with a letter through the senses, the better they’ll remember it!

Teaching the Letter P: Sounds and Recognition Tips
The letter P makes the clear, popping sound /p/—like in popcorn, penguin, puppy, and pencil. It’s a fun sound for preschoolers to practice, and they often love mimicking it! Try clapping or “popping” your lips as you say the sound together.
You can use small toys or picture cards that start with P to build a Letter P sound jar. Pull items out one at a time and practice saying the name with a clear P sound. Encourage your child to listen for the /p/ sound at the beginning of words.
When writing the letter P, teach that uppercase P is a straight line with a bump, and lowercase p goes below the line. Practice skywriting with fingers or tracing over dotted lines in your printable pack.
