Explore how vegetables grow with this fun Root Vegetables Tops and Bottoms Flip Book for kids!

Children can flip and match the tops and bottoms of six different garden vegetables while learning to recognize vegetables and notice which plant parts grow above and below the ground.

Mix up the pages to create silly vegetable combinations, then challenge kids to find all of the correct matches!

What’s Included

The printable flip book features six vegetables:

  • Carrot
  • Radish
  • Turnip
  • Beet
  • Onion
  • Garlic

Each vegetable is divided into separate top and bottom pieces that can be flipped independently. A picture reference on the front helps children check their matches.

Easy to Assemble

Print and cut out the pieces, hole punch them, and attach the top and bottom sections with two binder rings.

Mix up the pieces when you assemble the book so kids can flip through them to find the matching vegetables—or create some wonderfully strange new ones!

Learn While You Play

This hands-on printable is a fun way to practice:

  • Vegetable identification
  • Matching and visual discrimination
  • Plant parts
  • Above- and below-ground growth
  • Observation skills
  • Garden and plant science

Younger children can concentrate on matching and naming the vegetables, while older children can explore the science behind the edible plant parts—including the difference between roots and bulbs.

Pair It With Tops and Bottoms

This activity was inspired by Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens and makes a fun hands-on extension after reading the story.

It’s also perfect for garden units, plant science lessons, spring learning, preschool centers, homeschool activities, and elementary science.
