Make a Legend of the Candy Cane craft this Christmas with your kids!
I know many people do this tradition in their homes, but we have a Christmas book advent that we love to do in December. I have a big Santa bag that I fill with all of out Christmas picture books and read one each night to my children. I like to add in some new ones each year to make it more interesting.
This year one of the books I got was The Legend of the Candy Cane. I have heard the legend before, but had not read the book that went along with it. The story is about how the first candy canes were made and what they symbolize. My kids and I really love the story a lot!
I was teaching our little book club class at homeschool co-op last week and decided to use The Legend of the Candy Cane for the book. In trying to find a craft to make, I wanted to do something related to the legend. I couldn’t find anything I loved online, so I made one myself!
We made a candy cane craft with a little baby Jesus. The kids loved it and were excited to make it. My kids wanted to make another one when we got home with all of the extra parts and pieces.
How to Make the Legend of the Candy Cane Craft:
To make this Candy Cane craft you need:
Candy Cane Template (I got mine Here)
Colored Construction Paper– I used red, white, blue, and yellow paper
Glue Sticks
A Legend of the candy cane tag : DOWNLOAD HERE
Cut out the candy cane template. Cut red stripes and glue them on to the candy cane. Trim the edges of the red stripes after glued to make it easier. For the baby Jesus, use a blue oval and a white circle and draw on a face. The hay is made from yellow strips of paper.
Once it is all put together, glue on the tag if desired. The little poem on it is a great reminder of the story.

This is one of the Christmas books I have on my wish list! I’ll have to pin this for next year so I can do this adorable craft with my kids once we have the book. Thank you for sharing.
