Have you helped your kids set goals for the new year? Every year, I set a reading goal for myself. I try to read 50 books each year It is a challenge. This year, I am giving my kids a 12-month reading challenge and encouraging them to read 50 books by the end of the year. This is so doable!! It is just about a book each week, since there are 52 weeks in a year. I gave a little wiggle room for the hard days.
For some kids this may not be much of a challenge, but you can make it more of a challenge by helping them choose books that are a little harder than what they may typically read. My son is an avid reader and probably reads 3 times that amount, but this year I am going to challenge him a bit with the books he reads. My daughter reads a lot slower than her older brother, so this will be a great challenge for her!
I made a little printable chart that they can hang on their wall to help them keep on track. Each time they finish a book, they can color in a star. Charts that can be colored in always motivate my kids. To get a copy of the 12-month reading challenge you can save the image above, or click the link for a PDF version of it to download.
