Are you looking for a great way to teach you kids to type? I have found a great program to teach typing lessons for kids called Keyboard Classroom. We have tried a few different programs before this one, and I will say that I am very impressed with the content and quality of Keyboard Classroom. whether you homeschool or not this is a program you will find useful for your family!
Keyboard Classroom was created to teach kids the correct finger placement and help them learn the proper way to type. Kids can practice the skills they learn as little or as much as they need to before taking a timed fluency test. The test is typing the alphabet as the time counts down. They guarantee that after practicing for 15 minutes a day for just six months they will become proficient typists.
There are 30 levels of difficulty each increasing their skills and proficiency. They begin by learning the placement of the keys which is the most important thing to learn in basic typing. Each lessons has a practice option where the kids can practice the skills being taught for as long as they feel they need to. Once they are ready, they take a timed test that gives them scores. For each lesson they complete they earn a token giving them the ability to play games. They can only play games with tokens they earn from lessons. As they progress through the levels they learn to type more words and do it with more speed. As they move up a level the get promoted a rank. They use military rankings: Cadet, Private, General, etc. and get medals for their progress. The higher the levels progress to sentences and teach punctuation and capitalization as well.
We were given a single user license to use and test out, so my two kids have been taking turns using the Keyboard Classroom program. They both really enjoy practicing their typing skills with this program. They like the incentives to move up a level and also the games they can play with their tokens. It has been a great way to help them practice and progress in their skills. Typing is such a needed skill now in this world and I am really glad I have found a program that works well for us!
