1. Thanksgiving Pictionary Game

Who can draw a turkey? How about a Thanksgiving parade or a burnt dinner?

Thanksgiving Pictionary is a classic game, but a good one!  It’s a drawing and guessing game that’s perfect for family gatherings. Players take turns drawing Thanksgiving-themed words and phrases while their teammates race to guess the answers before time runs out.

The printable includes 60 Thanksgiving Pictionary prompts, with a mixture of easy, medium, and challenging words and phrases. You don’t need to be a talented artist to play. In fact, sometimes the terrible drawings are the funniest part!

Best for: Mixed-age groups, family teams, and kids who love drawing.

2. Thanksgiving Headband Guessing Game

Here’s another fun way to use those same 60 printable cards!

In this Thanksgiving version of the classic forehead guessing game, players hold a card against their forehead without looking at it. Everyone else can see the card, but the player must ask yes-or-no questions to figure out what’s written on it.

Am I something you eat? Am I a Thanksgiving tradition? Would you find me in the kitchen? The first person to guess five cards correctly wins!

Best for: Family parties, older kids, teens, and groups who enjoy guessing games.

I especially love that the Pictionary and Headband games share the same printable deck. Print and cut the cards once, and you’ve got two different games ready to play!

There are also four blank cards so you can add your own family traditions and funny phrases.

3. Thanksgiving This or That: Majority Rules

Pumpkin pie or apple pie? Stuffing or mashed potatoes? Thanksgiving parade or football? Everyone has an opinion! This Thanksgiving This or That game puts a competitive twist on those familiar holiday debates.

Players choose between two options and try to match the majority of the group. If your answer matches the most popular choice, you earn a point!

Want an extra challenge? Instead of choosing your own favorite, try predicting which answer the rest of the family will choose. You can also skip the scoring and use the questions as Thanksgiving conversation starters.

Best for: Large family gatherings, dinner-table conversations, and groups with a wide range of ages.

4. Thanksgiving Finish the Phrase

This might be one of the funniest games in the collection! Thanksgiving Finish the Phrase includes 30 silly, open-ended sentence prompts for players to complete with their own creative answers.

For example: The turkey disappeared because ______.

Everyone secretly writes an ending, and one person reads the completed sentences aloud without revealing who wrote them. Then the group votes for the funniest answer! The more ridiculous and unexpected the answers, the better.

Best for: Teens, adults, creative kids, and families who love word games and humor.

You can read the prompts directly from the printable sheets or cut them into strips to draw randomly from a bowl.

5. Thanksgiving Most Likely To…

Who’s most likely to sneak dessert before dinner? Who will fall asleep on the couch? And who always brings enough food to feed an army? This funny Thanksgiving family game is all about how well you know each other!

Read a prompt aloud, and everyone points to the person they think best fits the description. The results might surprise you!

There are no right or wrong answers, and you don’t even need to keep score. The fun comes from the stories, laughter, and friendly disagreements.

Best for: Extended families, grandparents, teenagers, and everyone who enjoys a little good-natured teasing.

6. Turkey Day Categories Game

Ready for a little friendly competition? Turkey Day Categories is a fast-thinking Thanksgiving word game inspired by classic category games.

Players receive a list of categories and a randomly selected letter. Then they race against the clock to write answers that begin with that letter.

For example, if the letter is P:

  • A Thanksgiving food: Pumpkin pie
  • Something you do in November: Prepare
  • Something you’re thankful for: Parents

The challenge is coming up with answers that nobody else thinks of!

This printable includes eight themed category lists with ten prompts each, along with letter tiles and answer sheets.

It’s a fun way to practice vocabulary, flexible thinking, and creativity while enjoying a little holiday competition.

Best for: Older kids, teenagers, adults, and competitive family game nights.

Which Thanksgiving Games Should You Play?

Not sure where to start? Here’s a quick guide to help you choose.

Game Best For Supplies
Pictionary Mixed-age teams Cards, paper, pencils
Headband Guessing Kids and families Shared cards
This or That Large groups and dinner tables Voting cards
Most Likely To Extended families Prompt cards
Finish the Phrase Teens and adults Paper and pencils
Turkey Day Categories Older kids and adults Answer sheets, pencils

For younger children, try playing in teams with an older sibling or adult.

For a large Thanksgiving gathering, I would start with This or That or Most Likely To. Both are easy to explain, and everyone can join in right away.

If you have a little more time, bring out Pictionary or Categories for some friendly competition.

How to Plan a Thanksgiving Family Game Night

You don’t have to play all six games in one sitting! Pick a few favorites based on the ages and interests of your group.

Here are some easy ideas:

  • Before Thanksgiving dinner: Play This or That while everyone gathers, or let the kids start a round of Pictionary.
  • Around the dinner table: Try Most Likely To for some funny family conversations.
  • After dinner: Divide into teams for Pictionary or Headband Guessing.
  • For the competitive crowd: Challenge everyone to a round of Turkey Day Categories.
  • For lots of laughs: Finish the evening with Thanksgiving Finish the Phrase.

A few small prizes can make things even more fun, but they’re completely optional.

The most important thing is spending time together and making memories!
