Looking for a fun and educational twist on a classic game? This Circular Tic Tac Toe Game puts a fresh spin (literally!) on the original by using a round game board with rings and sectors. It’s a great way to build critical thinking, visual-spatial reasoning, and even sneak in some geometry vocabulary!
This printable game is perfect for math centers, logic practice, indoor recess, or family game night.

What Is Circular Tic Tac Toe?
This strategy game is a variation of traditional Tic Tac Toe, played on a circular grid instead of a square. It includes concentric circles (like a dartboard) divided into sectors. Players aim to get either 3 or 4 in a row—horizontally, vertically, or diagonally in a spiral!
We’ve included two game versions:
-
3-in-a-row for quicker games and younger kids
-
4-in-a-row for a more advanced challenge

-
Choose a game board version: 3-in-a-row or 4-in-a-row.
-
Two players take turns marking spaces with Xs and Os (or use two colors).
-
Players aim to get 3 or 4 markers in a row:
-
Radial Line – vertically through the same sector (like spokes on a wheel)
-
Concentric Line – horizontally across the same ring
-
Diagonal Line – spiraling across the board from ring to ring
-
-
First to complete a line wins!
Tip: Laminate the board or use a dry erase pocket for endless reuse!

Add Some Geometry to the Game
This is more than a logic game—it’s a geometry lesson in disguise! Use the board to teach:
-
Radius – distance from center to edge
-
Diameter – length across the circle
-
Concentric Circles – circles that share a center
-
Radial Lines – lines that extend outward from the center
-
Sectors – the “slices” between two radial lines
Have older kids label the parts of the board or calculate angle measurements with a protractor.
Strategy Tips for the Game
- Block Your Opponent: Pay attention to your opponent’s moves and block their attempts to form a line.
- Plan Ahead: Think a few moves ahead to set up multiple potential winning lines.
- Use the Rings: Take advantage of the concentric circles to create opportunities for concentric and diagonal lines.
I hope you enjoy this fresh and strategic twist on the classic Tic Tac Toe game!
