Why Gratitude Games Matter

It’s easy for Thanksgiving to become a blur of food and to-dos. Activities like this help kids (and adults!) pause and notice the good.

Gratitude strengthens empathy, improves happiness, and builds emotional resilience. When kids learn to express thankfulness in small, tangible ways, it becomes a habit that shapes how they see the world.

You’ll often hear the sweetest responses:

“I’m thankful for my teacher because she listens to me.”
“I’m thankful for the rain because it makes everything grow.”
“I’m thankful for family game nights.”

Those little moments remind us why these traditions matter.

Classroom & Homeschool Ideas

  • Journal Extension: Have kids write their answers on a gratitude recording sheet or in a daily journal.

  • Gratitude Wall: Post everyone’s responses on colorful sticky notes to create a visual display of thankfulness.

  • Morning Circle or Family Devotional: Choose one candy each day during November and share a short reflection together.

  • STEM Twist: Sort and graph the candies by color before you begin—then discuss probability and data while you play!
