Thanksgiving Conversation Starters and Activities for Kids

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays—not just for the pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes (though I love those too!), but because it’s a chance to pause, reflect, and connect with the people we love most. Whether you’re hosting a big family gathering or a quiet dinner at home, these Thanksgiving Conversation Starters are a fun and meaningful way to bring everyone together.
I created a printable set of three simple Thanksgiving activities designed to spark connection, laughter, and gratitude around your holiday table. They’re especially fun for kids, but adults love them too!

What’s Included in the Thanksgiving Conversation Starters Pack?
This 5-page printable includes three unique conversation activities that can be used before, during, or after Thanksgiving dinner:
1. Turkey Fact Cards (24 Cards)
Fun and surprising facts about turkeys! Did you know a group of wild turkeys is called a “rafter”? These trivia cards are perfect for reading aloud or playing a game around the table. Use them as an icebreaker or challenge your kids to guess the answer before reading it.
2. Thanksgiving Alphabet Game
From A is for Apple Pie to Z is for Zucchini Bread, this simple alphabet game challenges kids to come up with a Thanksgiving-themed word for each letter. It’s a great vocabulary activity and perfect for keeping little hands busy while the food finishes cooking.
My 7-year-old loved this one so much he made a rule that all words had to be food!

3. “I Think ___ is Thankful For ___” Prompt
A sweet and silly fill-in-the-blank page where each family member guesses what someone else at the table is thankful for. It’s thoughtful, often hilarious, and always heartwarming.

My daughter’s guess for what I’m thankful for gave us all a good laugh—she’s not wrong!
