How to Make a Spinning Easter Egg Craft
1. Cut Out Egg Shapes
Draw and cut out 6-8 identical egg shapes from colored paper. Use my free template! You can download it below.Â

Tip: Stack your paper and cut multiple layers at once to save time.
2. Arrange Your Colors
Lay your eggs out in a rainbow or gradient order.
Example:
- Pink
- Peach
- Yellow
- Green
- Blue
- Purple or white
This helps create a smooth color-blending effect when spinning.
3. Fold Each Egg in Half
Fold each egg vertically down the center. This creates the 3D shape when glued together.

4. Glue the Egg Layers Together
Glue one half of an egg to the half of the next egg. Continue until all pieces are attached. Before closing the final piece, insert the skewer.

5. Add the SkewerÂ
Insert a wooden skewer through the center. Secure with glue. The glue stick doesn’t hold it, so you may want to add a dab of hot glue to make it stronger.Â

6. Spin It!
Roll the skewer between your hands. Watch as the colors blend into a soft rainbow!

The Science Behind it All
As the egg spins, your eyes begin to blend the colors together. This happens because of a concept called persistence of vision, which means your brain holds onto an image for a fraction of a second after you see it. When the egg spins quickly, your eyes can’t separate each individual layer, so the colors combine into a soft, blended rainbow. This same idea is what makes animation and movies appear to move!
Tips for Best Results
- Use 6-8 layers for smoother blending
- Choose light, pastel colors for a softer effect arranged in rainbow order
- Make sure your layers are evenly glued and aligned
- Spin faster for a stronger color blend
