This homemade ornament uses painted craft sticks and a nativity coloring page. Glue four sticks into a square frame, add two more to make the roof, and attach a small printed nativity image or have kids draw their own.

Craft Stick Christmas Tree Ornament

Cut craft sticks in half, paint them green, and arrange into a tree shape. Add a full stick as the trunk and decorate with sequins or stickers. We made a simple pipe-cleaner star for the top!

Tips for Successful Ornament Crafting

  • Use plastic ornaments for younger kids — fewer breaks = more fun

  • Prep a small craft tray with everything needed

  • Add name + year on the back! They become cherished time capsules

Expand the Fun: Ornament Learning Ideas

Sneak in holiday learning while they create:

  • Measurement- “How long should the ribbon be?”

  • Counting & Patterns- Add beads in repeating color sequences

  • Science- Circuits, salt crystals, sensory materials

  • Storytelling- Kids name and describe their ornament on the tree

This makes ornament time both magical and meaningful.

  1. I’m always so amazed when I come across blogs like this in which the authors are so artsy. I don’t even know what to do with anything semi-artsy. Kudos to you! Thanks for sharing.

  2. New follower from the Brag Time Thursday blog Hop! (I’m a little late linking up this week! LOL)

Aren’t making ornaments with the kids so much fun? I always write their initial and date (small) somewhere with permanent marker so we can see who did what when. Wonderful memories!

  3. Lots of cute ideas! I just posted (and you probably saw) the corn starch dough ornaments, my oldest is not into crafty, but he really enjoyed them! I also did some jingle bell ornaments from Oriental Trading, but he didn’t get into them at all. It’s hit or miss with him sometimes! TFS at BTT!
