STEM science- what is the big deal?  Why do people care so much about it these days?  In my opinion it is because the world is so technology driven. The more kids know at an early age about this tech-centered age, the better off they will do in society. The hottest new thing to teach kids these days is coding. I have seen more and more coding resources popping up for young kids. We are loving it because my kids are extremely interested in learning more about it. Another hot thing these days are the monthly subscription boxes for kids. If you put together coding with subscription boxes you have a Bitsbox.

What is a Bitsbox?

We got to try out a Bitsbox this month. I was pleasantly surprised by Bitsbox and what we received. The box came with a “mystery” toy, a bunch of stickers and temporary tattoos, a booklet with instructions and 21 codes for apps, and also some app trading cards. They offer monthly subscriptions on their site at varying prices.

Munny Toy

The toy changes each month and this month we got a Munny doll. It is a vinyl doll that it all white. It came with three markers. You can draw all over it, then wipe it off and do it again with a new design. It is a fun toy that my kids have played with a lot. They love that they can all take turns creating it in their own way.

When you get your first box, it teaches you how to set up your online account. They have a website where all the action takes place. You take all of the different codes and enter them in on the website to create all kinds of fun different apps. The apps do different things like animations, dot-to-dots, write messages in the sky, and create art.

Once the apps are created, they can be customized. They an also be used on mobile devices! My kids thought that was the coolest!  There is a QR code to scan that you allows you to open it on your mobile devices. This allows the kids to really feel like they have made something and it encourages them to want to keep trying! Our opinion of Bitsbox is VERY favorable. I love teaching my kids important things like coding and giving them an advantage in this world.  I give it a big thumbs up!
