Fairy Tale Puppet Show Theater

I am so excited about this fun post! Â We have had the best time with our Fairy Tale Puppet Show Theater! Â Â My daughter literally hugged me and told me it was the best thing I have ever made for her. Â Cute, right?
You’ve got to try this. I know everyone is looking for something to keep the kids occupied right now and this is the perfect little family activity.
How to Make the Puppet Show Theater
Supplies Needed:
- Cardboard box
- Duct Tape
- Small piece of fabric
- Yarn or String
- Craft Stick
- Fairy Tale Props and Backdrops (see the download at the end of the post)
This cute little puppet show theater is made entirely out of a cardboard box! It is SO easy to make, too! Â We get a couple of different subscription box kits for our kids and this is a box from one of those, but any shoe box or delivery you have should work great! Â If it has a large flap or attached lid, it will stand up better.
Cut some slits down the side of the box for your little puppets to go through. Use a box cutter knife if you have one. If your box is big enough you could make the set backdrops slide through this slot as well. Ours was not quite big enough for that.
Once the openings on the side were cut, I secured it with some duct tape so it wouldn’t fall apart.
I cut the fabric into two pieces to make the curtains. The fabric is just taped to the inside top of the box and then tied to the sides to draw them back. Â I also secured each of the ties with a little piece of tape to keep them from falling off or getting lost.
If you have a box lid that is attached, glue down a piece of paper- this is just for decoration, but we liked how it looked.  🙂
That’s it for the puppet show set. Â Easy, right?
Now print and assemble your puppet show characters. Just cut them out and tape a craft stick on the back of them.
Printable Fairy Tale Props
My printable fairy tale props and backdrops include the following stories:
- The Three Little Pigs
- The Gingerbread Man
- Goldilocks and the Three Bears
- Three Billy Goats Gruff
- Jack and the Beanstalk
- Hansel and Gretel
- Little Red Riding Hood
- The Ugly Duckling
These storytelling props match up with my printable mini fairy tale books and play sets that I created earlier this week. Â You can use the stories to help kids become familiar with the stories! Then when they put on their puppet shows they will be able to easily re-tell the fairy tale stories.

Putting On a Puppet Show
Little kids always love putting on puppet shows.  Plus, it’s such a wonderful learning activity for kids! They are so good for their imagination and critical thinking skills. Also, it’s great to give kids a chance to perform.
To do a puppet show, kids need to be able to come up with a story and know which characters need to be on for each part of the story. This printable set also includes a variety of backdrops so they will need to recognize which set works for each part of the story.
Pin it to remember for later!
