Start your Georgia state study with these fun and fascinating facts:

  • Georgia became the 4th state in the U.S. on January 2, 1788.

  • It’s nicknamed “The Peach State”, thanks to its reputation for producing sweet, juicy peaches.

  • The state capital is Atlanta, which is also the largest city in Georgia.

  • Georgia is bordered by Florida, Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

  • It’s home to the Okefenokee Swamp, one of the largest freshwater swamps in North America.

  • The Blue Ridge Mountains run through northern Georgia, offering stunning views and hiking trails.

  • Georgia has a coastline along the Atlantic Ocean, with beautiful barrier islands and historic towns like Savannah.

  • The state bird is the Brown Thrasher, and the state flower is the Cherokee Rose.

  • Famous Georgians include Martin Luther King Jr., President Jimmy Carter, and singer Ray Charles.

  • Atlanta hosted the 1996 Summer Olympic Games, bringing global attention to the city.

How to Use This Georgia Geography Pack

Use this printable pack to build foundational geography skills while learning about the unique features of Georgia. Here’s a suggested sequence:

  1. Read through the fun facts together as a warm-up.

  2. Use the maps to build map-reading and labeling skills.

  3. Fill in the info worksheet with a U.S. atlas or safe internet search.

  4. Add creativity with the coloring and maze pages.

  5. Extend learning with a read-aloud or craft!
