Letter of the Week: Preschool Letter B Activities & Ideas

This post may contain affiliate links.

Hey there! I’m so excited to continue our Preschool Letter of the Week series. Last week we kicked things off with the Preschool Letter A Worksheets and Activities, and today we’re moving on to the Letter B.

My sweet little girl is so eager to learn alongside her older siblings—she’s always asking for more school time! I love teaching preschoolers at this age. Their excitement is contagious and these short, hands-on lessons really stick with them.

This post includes everything you need for a fun and educational Letter B week:

  • A letter B-themed snack
  • A letter B craft
  • A letter B book list
  • A 17-page printable activity pack

Come back weekly as we work through the whole alphabet!

What’s Included in the Preschool Letter B Worksheet Pack?

The Printable Preschool Letter B Pack includes 17 pages of literacy-rich learning activities. Designed to keep little hands busy and brains engaged, this printable is great for homeschool, preschool classrooms, or extra enrichment at home.

Included in the pack:

  • Uppercase and lowercase letter tracing
  • Cutting practice pages
  • Letter recognition: circle the B
  • Letter B puzzles
  • Do-a-dot marker pages
  • Letter B mazes
  • Coloring sheets

This Letter B activity pack is available individually or as part of the full Letter of the Week Preschool Bundle.

Teaching the Letter B: Sounds and Recognition Tips

The letter B makes the /b/ sound—like in banana, bear, bubble, and book. It’s a fun sound to practice because it’s so bouncy and clear. Kids love to make exaggerated “buh buh buh” sounds and bounce like a ball as they say it.

You can help your preschooler listen for the /b/ sound at the beginning of words with a simple game. Fill a basket with small objects or images and have them pick out the ones that start with B.

Letter B is formed with one straight line and two round bumps. Practice tracing with your finger, in sand, or using ribbon and glue to build the shape.

Hands-On Letter B Activity Ideas

Here are a few easy and fun hands-on ideas for reinforcing the letter B this week:

  • Bubble Painting – Blow bubbles in colored dish soap water and stamp paper over the bubbles
  • Block Building Challenge – Use building blocks to create shapes that start with B
  • Bear Hunt Game – Hide toy bears around the room and let your child go on a bear hunt
  • Letter B Bean Bag Toss – Label containers with B words and toss bean bags into the right one
  • Bounce Like a B – Have a “bounce break” where you bounce while saying /b/ words
  • Button Sort – Sort buttons by size or color and form a giant letter B

Fine Motor Activities for This Letter

Practicing letter formation while building fine motor skills is key for preschoolers. Here are a few fun ways to do both:

  • Trace the letter B using buttons, beads, or pom-poms
  • Use tweezers to transfer small B items (beans, beads, blueberries)
  • Make a paper plate bear mask with cutting, gluing, and coloring steps
  • Tear and glue blue construction paper into a letter B collage
  • Cut and paste shapes to decorate a giant bubble B

Letter Snack: Banana Berry Boats

We like to keep our snacks on the healthier side, and these Banana Berry Boats were a hit!

Start with a banana sliced lengthwise. Add a drizzle of almond butter (or peanut/sunflower butter), then top with blueberries and raspberries. Sprinkle granola over the top and finish with a tiny drizzle of honey.

These are a little messy (forks are helpful!), but they make a delicious letter B-themed snack—or even breakfast!

Letter B Craft: B is for Butterfly

This Butterfly Letter B craft is fun and simple. We used the large B template from the printable pack and traced it onto black construction paper. Then we glued it onto a white background and filled the wings with colorful tissue paper.

You can also add pipe cleaner antennae, googly eyes, or even glitter for extra flair.

Letter B Learning Moments

This week, we had so many sweet moments—my daughter is eager for more school each day, and I love seeing her eyes light up when she gets to trace, cut, or color her letter B pages. Our favorite moments included:

  • Making Banana Berry Boats for breakfast
  • Bouncing around the house while shouting B words
