I have seriously fun thing to share with you today. I love sewing little projects for myself & for my kids. My daughter has been bugging me for about a year now to learn to sew & I have neglected it for way too long. When I was approached to review a new book called Sewing School 2: Lessons in Machine Sewing by Amie Petronis Plumley and Andria Lisle, I was SO excited! I also get to give a copy of this book to one reader!
Their first book, Sewing School, taught kids how to hand sew. This second book teaches kids ages 7 and up to make projects on a machine. They could do this on their own, or with a little supervision if necessary. My kids have no sewing experience & I helped them along the way, but they were really able to do so much of it on their own. The book is written on a 2nd grade level, so it is really meant for kids to do all on their own!
When I got it in the mail, I was immediately drawn in by the beautiful full-color pictures and the easy to follow step-by-step instructions. There are patterns right in the book, too. There is a built in pocket with all of the patterns right there. I loved this!! My kids and I had fun searching the book to decide what to make first. There are 20 different projects to choose from. Each one is something fun that kids would really want to make. There are projects like secret message pillows, water bottle holders, a zippy pouch, and even a fabric microphone & guitar.
We chose to do the microphone & guitar because they are just SO cool! MY kids really wanted to do as much as possible on their own. They helped with all of the fabric selection, cutting and basic sewing. I did have to help and guide them a bit, but they were able to make these projects almost completely by themselves!
Look how amazing they turned out!! My kids & I are so proud of what they accomplished. We will definitely be making more of these projects!
