What Is Peeps Sushi?

Peeps Candy Sushi is a playful spin on traditional sushi—but instead of rice and seaweed, we’re using Rice Krispie treats, fruit roll-ups, and marshmallow Peeps. It’s colorful, easy to make, and a guaranteed conversation starter. A friend of mine told me they make this every year as a family and I just had to give it a try!  My kids were sure glad we did.

How to Make Peeps Sushi

1. Make your Rice Krispie treats (if doing homemade). Flatten them out.
Use your hands or a rolling pin to gently flatten the treats into a sushi roll shape.

2. Cut into rectangles.
Slice into 2×3 inch rectangles or smaller sushi “bases.”

3. Add a Peep on top.
Place a Peep chick or bunny on each Rice Krispie base.

4. Wrap it up!
Use a strip of fruit roll-up to wrap around the Peep and treat, just like a piece of seaweed on sushi.

5. Optional extras for your candy sushi:
Add more candy such as jelly beans to the sides as “wasabi” or “caviar” or tuck in little licorice strings to look like seaweed salad!

Extend the Fun (Learning + Snack!)

This is more than just a treat—it’s a chance to mix creativity, sensory fun, and even a little learning.

  • Turn it Tinto a cultural geography activity! Talk about traditional Japanese sushi and compare ingredients

  • Practice fine motor skills as kids wrap their treats

  • Try a “candy cooking class” in your homeschool

  • Turn it into an edible art challenge!

What Kids Can Learn From Making Peeps Candy Sushi:

  • Measuring and dividing (math)

  • Planning and sequencing (executive function)

  • Exploring different food textures (sensory play)

  • Cultural appreciation through pretend play

  • Creativity in naming and presenting food

Tip: Serve your Peeps candy sushi with chopsticks or mini cupcake liners to look like sushi trays!

You can even print out a Peeps Sushi Menu as part of the experience—ask kids to name and design their own candy sushi rolls.
