Interested in teaching your kids about compound words? I think they are so much fun! We were doing a little lesson on them recently and had an activity in our curriculum, The Good and the Beautiful (level 2), where we made a little compound word foldable by drawing pictures. My son loved it so much that we decided to recreate it and make another one to share with others.
Compound Words Foldable for Kids
This little foldable is a perfect way to teach kids the concept of compound words. This printable includes a foldable with the space for 8 words. There are 3 pictures for each word- the two words that make up the compound word and a picture of the compound word.
The compound words included are:
How to Make the Compound Words Foldable
This activity is quite simple to assemble. You will need to print 2 pages: the foldable page and the image page. Kids can color them if desired.
Cut around the foldable template and cut the lines along the side until you reach the dotted lines. There you will fold them inwards.
You will also need a glue stick to attach them pictures.
On the outside you will glue the two pictures that make up the compound word. On the inside, you will glue the picture for the word it creates, and then write the word.
Here is what it looks like completed! You can see the inside and the outside.
Isn’t this fun?!
Or here they are not in motion so you can see them better.
Also included with this printable is a set of compound word puzzles. There are 8 puzzles matching the words on the foldable, as well as 4 blank ones to create more if you want.
