My little almost first grader is begging for more reading and handwriting practice. (I know, crazy, right?!) So I thought I would put together a pre-primer handwriting practice packet for him with the Dolch Pre-Primer sight words.
When my daughter was little younger I made a handwriting packet with the first grade Dolch sight words, so I thought I would continue on and make them into a series!
What are Dolch Sight Words?
Dolch sight words are the high-frequency words that students in kindergarten through second grade typically would be reading. They are listed by age group. There are several levels for the Dolch Sight words:
- Pre-Primer Sight Words
- Primer Sight Words
- First Grade Sight Words
- Second Grade Sight Words
- Third Grade Sight Words
Pre-Primer Sight Words in This Handwriting Packet:
a, and, away, big, blue, can, come, down, find, for, funny, go, help, here, I, in, is, it, jump, little, look, make, me, my, not, one, play, red, run, said, see, the, three, to, two, up, we, where, yellow, you
Dolch selected 40 sight words at the pre-primer level. If your child is an emergent reader or just beginning to obtain a sight word vocabulary, these words are an ideal starting point. Almost half of these words are among the most used words for students in grades kindergarten through second grade. In addition, about a third of all written material is comprised of 25 words; ten of these words are included below in the Dolch Pre-Primer Word List.
