Supplies to Make Bath Crayons

Bath crayons really are quite easy to make. You only need a few basic and easy to find ingredients and supplies:

Glycerin Soap

Coloring (food coloring or soap coloring)

Scent (optional, I used lemon and orange essential oils)

A silicone shape mold

There are a lot of different varieties of glycerin soap- you can get them with a goats milk base, coconut oil base, honey base, etc… I just got a basic clear glycerin soap base. You can find these soaps online or at your local craft store.

For the coloring, I purchased an actual soap coloring. It worked great and you don’t need very much of it in the soap to make them brightly colored, however the more coloring you add, the better they draw on the bathtub wall! I used lemon and orange scented essential oils to make them smell good. They smell so yummy & I know my kids will like the scent of them!

For the shape molds, I have a bunch of silicone ice cube molds that I used to make the shapes. One is actually a water bottle shape mold– it is a long thin stick. But really any shape could be used.

You could do it in a regular muffin pan, too. The nice thing about the silicone molds is that they are really easy to pop out.

How to Make the Homemade Bath Crayons

To make the homemade bath crayons, you simply melt the soap in a microwave safe container (or in a pot on the stove).

I did it in 30 second increments in the microwave and stirred each time to make sure I wasn’t cooking it too long. The cook time will depend on how much you do at once. I did small amounts so I could do a variety of colors for my kids.

Once the soap is melted add in any color or scent that you would like and quickly pour into the molds before it begins to set. When the molds are filled you can put them in the fridge to set up quickly.

Once the bathtub crayons are completely hardened you can pop them out and wrap up however you would like.

Now the crayons can be used to draw on the bath tub walls. Since it is just soap, they wash off pretty easily.

Your kids will love their homemade bath crayons!!
