Lock and Key Addition Puzzles

I have seen some fun lock and key activities that you can do. I wanted to take it down to an easy accessible level with a printable, so I created these lock and key addition puzzles.

Lock & Key Addition Puzzles for Kids

Using keys makes these puzzles so much more fun than your average puzzle!  I got the “cool!” approval from all of my kids and they each wanted their turn to play with them.

There are 12 different matching set of locks and keys. Each key has a different number from 1-12 and the locks have simple addition problems that match with those numbers.

There are 6 different patterns, so they have to be sure both the pattern and the numbers match up.

  1. This is a very great activity, that I will try with my kids.

However, it’s a bit confusing, that lots of those addition problems that are close to each other (5+5/5+6 ; 4+4/4+3) have the same key. This means, that a child could do it the wrong way without getting corrected by the awesome Idea you had with the keys. They can calculate wrong: 4+4=7 and get the response of the puzzle: problem solved. You see what I mean?

I am probably going to colour them on the back so the kids can still correct themselves.
