Make Ten Math Game Printable: Fun Addition Puzzle for Kids

This printable Make Ten math game is a fun, hands-on addition game for kindergarten and first grade. Kids practice finding number pairs that add up to ten while building addition fact fluency through play.
Instead of worksheets, kids solve a puzzle by connecting numbers that add up to ten. It feels like a game, but it builds powerful math skills.
I first discovered a vintage version of this game in a thrift store years ago and immediately fell in love with the concept. I’ve always loved hands-on learning games, and I knew I wanted to create my own printable version so other families and teachers could use it too.
This addition puzzle has since become one of our favorite math activities.
Why Learning to Make Ten Is So Important
Understanding combinations that make ten is a foundational math skill.
When kids master these number relationships, it helps them with:

How the Make Ten Math Game Works
This printable addition math game is made of triangle puzzle pieces. Each triangle has three numbers on it. The goal is to connect triangles by matching numbers that add up to ten.
For example:
3 connects with 7
6 connects with 4
8 connects with 2
Kids continue building and connecting pieces to create a larger puzzle shape. The challenge becomes figuring out how to use the most pieces.
How to Prepare the Printable Puzzle
Supplies needed:
• Make Ten Math Game printable- Find them in my shop HERE.
• Cardstock (recommended)
• Scissors
Print the puzzle on cardstock for durability.
Cut out the triangles, making sure to keep each triangle intact with its three numbers. You can print on different colors of paper to make it more visually engaging.
Optional: laminate the pieces for long-term use in classrooms or math centers.
Ways to Play the Make Ten Game
There are several ways to use this printable depending on age and ability.
Beginner Level
Have kids focus on connecting just a few pieces correctly. Encourage them to say the addition fact out loud:
“6 plus 4 equals 10.”
This helps reinforce math fact memorization.
Challenge Level
Have kids try to connect as many triangles as possible.
Turn it into a challenge:
• Who can use the most pieces?
• Who can finish fastest?
• Who can build the largest shape?
Older kids love the puzzle aspect of this.
Independent or Group Play
This activity works well for:

Make It Easier for Younger Kids
If younger children need extra support, try this variation:
Print on white paper and have kids color each number.
For example:
All 5s = blue
All 2s = red
