We all need a little more self-care. Read on for some self-care tips for a balanced life. This has been a hard year for me. With a cancer diagnosis and an ever busier home life, I was feeling very unbalanced.  For those who are new here, I received a Thyroid Cancer diagnosis last year. I had my thyroid removed and I am doing quite well now. But it has taken some time for me to feel fully well. Today I want to share some self care tips that help me stay balanced.

There are a lot of things I have learned over the years, but also in this past year that have helped me find balance and be ready to tackle each new day. I’ll share with you how I stay physically balanced, spiritually balanced and mentally balanced. I’m sharing my new favorite thing, too…

As busy moms, we all need to find balance in our lives. We need to find ways to feel good despite the chaos that goes on around us. It is so important to keep yourself well so you can tackle all that comes at you each day. When I am balanced, my whole world goes better. I am a happier mom, and I am a more productive person in general. You guys, it is the KEY to getting stuff done!  People ask me all of the time how I get everything done that I do, and I really believe it has to do with how I care for myself.

Self Care Tips for a Balanced Life

#1 Spiritual Balance

This will always be number one in my book. Not a spiritual person, that’s ok, I really think you can find value here, too.  I am and it is the core of my being. I believe I am a child of God and that my life has purpose and meaning. I thoughtfully make choices based on that belief.  If you are feeling down, take a look inside. What negative thoughts about yourself are you holding onto and how can you change those? You are valuable and have so much to offer to those around you. Strengthen the talents you have by sharing them with others, it will bring you joy and inner happiness.

How I find balance spiritually:

I start my day with study and prayer. If you do not pray, then meditate. Find inner peace with yourself and your place in life.  I study scripture and religious material that is uplifting and inspiring to me. I do this alone so I can ponder and write as well. This is a MUST-DO every day for me and I rarely miss it.

#2 Physical Balance-

Diet and exercise are important keys to my feeling balanced. We all know this, but living it is a different story, am I right? Everyone has different ideas of what a good diet is these days, but we all know we need to eat our fruits and veggies.  Taking good care of yourself physically keeps everything else running.

How I find balance physically:

You are what you eat. I know we have all heard this, but I believe it so much!  When I am eating well, I am well.  When I am not eating well, I am not well. It affects me emotionally and physically when my diet is not right. You can read about my plant-based diet here. So this is a HUGE part of staying in balance for me.

Along with eating well, I have tried a multitude of supplements. Most, I do not feel are valuable, however some offer some amazing added benefits. Since my surgery, I have been low on energy, but also low on mental capacity. I felt this constant cloud keeping me from thinking well and desiring to do much. That was rough for me because I am a do-er!  About a month ago, a friend of mine, after hearing me talk about this mental cloud I was feeling, came to me and told me about this green drink she had been using, called Puratae. I was skeptical, but interested.

What is Puratae?  It’s a Superfood Green Drink!

Within two days of drinking this stuff, I felt like my mind came back awake!  It sounds too good to be true, but I am not kidding. What’s in it?  It has more than 60 ingredients, and not one of them are unrecognizable chemicals that I would think twice about putting in my body. They are all pure superfoods!  It is organic, non GMO and dairy, soy, gluten and nut free. It has ingredients that support Immunity and that are full of antioxidants, probiotics for gut health and digestion, vitamins & minerals (A,C,D,E,K,B,  Chromium, Calcium, Iron, Phosphorus, etc) that you find in a multi-  such as Spirulina, pea protein, wheat grass, kelp powder, beet root, and more! It has ingredients that stabilize blood sugar and give you energy, hormonal, neural and cognitive support, too!  Pretty much it has everything I have ever wanted all in one.

Before finding Puratae, I was taking another cocktail of supplements trying to get all of this into my body. I was not feeling as healthy and was about to quit all of it.  My dear friend  brought this up to me at the exact moment that I needed it, truly! Since it has helped me feel so amazing, I kinda want to shout it from the rooftops so others can feel better, too.

Now, through  (March 19, 2019) You can get 15% off any full size or mini bag of Puratae with this code: Karyn15.

If you are going to try it out, I also HIGHLY recommend grabbing the shaker bottle with your order because it will mix it & smooth it out WAY better than just mixing it with a spoon!

Physical activity is not just for weight loss!  I think most people know the physical benefits of exercise (heart health, muscle strength, combats disease) But seriously, when I am exercising, I am a happier person. It does something to my brain. There are studies showing that exercise improves mood and I feel that!  I love hiking and walking outside, especially. Exercise outside gives you that fresh air and that joy of being in nature as well and the physical benefits. Fit it in, it does wonders for your mental health as well as your physical health. It also gives you more energy, which feels opposite, but it works for me.

#2 Mental Balance-

By this I mean, keep up learning and growing intellectually. Because “the more you know, the places you’ll go” (according to my good friend Dr. Seuss) Do things that you love to do as often as you can.

How I find mental balance:

I read a lot of books. I love learning, so I am always reading, listening to audio books or podcasts.  I try to fill my mind with high-quality things, and not waste much time on the light fluff.  Light fluff has a time & place, though! (sick days or days when you mentally just need a break).

Mom’s nights: I have a group I am a part of that is called “Learning Circle”. Each month we meet together. It is a group of about 10 moms that I love dearly.  We discuss sweet and sours (wins & struggles) from our lives that month, and discuss a predetermined topic that we have all read & prepared to talk about. These are spiritual and/or intellectual topics and things that enrich our lives.  This group has helped me in so many ways! They help me with my challenges, they are among the first ones I go to with the good or the bad in my life.  This really gives me so much balance mentally. I always come away from that night feeling ready to take on the world again. For my own mental sanity, I have to step away from being a mom from time to time. There is no guilt in this!

Date nights: My husband and I go out every Friday night. This is such an important part of our relationship and is good for our mental sanity.  We can re-connect and talk about our week and unload all of the stress we have been holding onto. I highly recommend this!

Let me know in the comments how YOU find balance in your life. What are your most important things?
