Let Kids Move

The most important part of teaching an active child, is to allow them to move. Some kids really struggle with sitting still. My son is one of those kids!  He has ADHD and really needs opportunities to be active.  Even when sitting still, he is bouncing his legs or fidgeting his hands. It is ok, to let kids move and wiggle and bounce while learning, if it helps them focus. Wiggly kids really do focus better while wiggling, believe it or not. The very act of sitting still may take away all of their energy to focus on anything else! However movement while learning actually can improve their memory and focus.

We have an awesome new way to keep my kids moving while learning with this Unity Pedal Desk. You can sit at is and pedal while also doing school work. It has revolutionized our learning!  The kids love to take turns using it during our school day.

Take Lots of Breaks

Kids need breaks frequently. They especially need to get outside on these breaks!  Kids have a much shorter attention span than adults, so they need frequent breaks in their learning. If you take them outside, it can really clear their head and help them to focus again more easily.

Do Short Lessons

This goes along with taking frequent breaks. Short lessons work much better for kids than longer lessons. Their minds cannot focus for long amounts of time.  Having mini lessons will help them to retain the information better!

Make Learning More Interactive

A fabulous idea to use when teaching an active child is to turn the learning activities into a game or something else interactive. I have so many ideas for learning with games on this site! Browse around by topic for ideas to make learning more engaging for your kids. But simple things can include tossing a ball back and for when spelling a word, hopping around while reciting math facts, etc.

You can find the desk here to purchase. The amazing thing about this Pedal desk is that kids can be active while working and not disrupt the rest of the classroom or the other kids learning in the room. It also improves kids mental focus if they can move while learning.

It was designed for children, but there is also a teen and adult version. The desks are also adjustable, so it can work for any age! It is cordless and has wheels on the bottom to make it really easy to move around to different rooms. The Pedal Bike is an incredible product and I am so happy we became aware of it!

  1. My youngest needs to move a lot! He’s in swim team and swims normally 4 times a week for 90 minutes each time and still has excess energy! This desk looks like it could be a game changer for us!
