We are great big Harry Potter nerds at our house. I have such a fun activity for you today~ a Harry Potter Escape Room for teaching!
My kids have read the Harry Potter books so many times, I am not sure we could count. If you have kids who are also big fans of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, then this fun escape room is for you!
This Harry Potter themed escape room is based on Harry’s third year at the Hogwart’s school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K Rowling.
In this book, Harry learns that Sirius Black, has escaped from Azkaban Sirius is a convicted murderer and supporter of Lord Voldemort! Can you help Harry Potter and his friends escape from danger?
What’s Included in the Harry Potter Escape Room?
There are five puzzles in this escape room that you need to decipher a secret phrase at the end to win.
This escape room can be done virtually with your students, in a classroom, or at home in a homeschool setting! It’s intended for the 4th-6th grade age range.
Puzzle #1 Spells Matching Game~ In this puzzle students need to match the spells to the correct definition or purpose. When they have it correct, they will get a set of letters to start deciphering the secret phrase.
Puzzle #2 Arithmancy~ In this puzzle, students will need to decipher their social, heart and character numbers. These will then be converted to letters.
Puzzle #3 Character/Plot Puzzle~ In this activity, kids are given 9 cards with character names and plot details to match up.
Puzzle #4 Herbology~ This puzzle has students read an article on magical plants and answer questions about them correctly.
Puzzle #5 Close Reading and Literary Analysis~ Students will read an excerpt from the book and answer comprehension questions focused on comprehension, literary analysis and vocabulary. (Must have the book to complete this section!)
For each of the puzzles, kids will be given a set of letters to unscramble leading them to the final secret phrase to solve! The first person or team to solve the scrambled words wins!
Does this not sound like so much fun?! My kids sure were excited about it and loved using it. I hope your kids or students will have just as much fun!
