For generations, families, scouts, and summer camps have gathered around the fire to sing simple songs together. Campfire songs are easy to learn, fun to sing, and a wonderful way to bring everyone together.

Whether you’re heading out on a camping trip or planning a backyard campout, having a collection of campfire songs lyrics ready to go makes it easy for everyone to join in.

What Are Traditional Campfire Songs?

Campfire songs are simple folk-style songs that are easy for groups to sing together outdoors.

Many of these songs have been passed down for generations at summer camps, scout groups, and family camping trips. Because they are easy to learn and often have repeating choruses, kids can quickly join in even if they’ve never heard the song before.

Most campfire songs include:

• repeating verses
• call-and-response singing
• fun motions or actions

Teaching Campfire Songs to Kids

Most campfire songs are designed to be easy to learn. Usually one person starts singing and the rest of the group joins in once they hear the chorus and know the tunes. You can find all of them on Youtube if you need to learn it first! 

If kids are new to the song, you can:

• sing one verse and have kids repeat it
• teach the chorus first
• add motions or actions
• gradually sing louder with each verse

It doesn’t take long before everyone is singing along as they stare into the flames.
