Do you have a kid who loves football? Turn that enthusiasm into math practice with this simple football math game for kids!

100 Yard Dash is a printable math game that lets kids race their way down a football field while practicing counting, addition, subtraction, or multiplication.

All you need is the printable game board, a couple of dice, and small game pieces. Best of all, you can use the same football math game with several different math levels, making it easy to adapt for different ages and abilities.

It’s a fun addition to your math lessons during football season, or anytime you’re looking for a playful way to practice math facts.

Printable Football Math Game

The 100 Yard Dash game board is designed as a football field with spaces numbered from 1 to 100.

Players begin at one end of the field and race toward the end zone. Instead of simply rolling a die and moving, they’ll use the numbers on their dice to solve a math problem.

The answer tells them how many spaces they get to move.

First player to reach 100 scores a touchdown!

It’s simple enough to pull out for a quick math game, but there are several ways to change the rules depending on the skills your child is working on.

How to Play 100 Yard Dash

You’ll need:

  • The printable 100 Yard Dash game board
  • Two dice
  • Small game pieces, such as buttons, mini erasers, coins, or game pawns

Place the game pieces at the starting line. Players take turns rolling the dice, solving the math problem, and moving the correct number of spaces. Continue playing until one player reaches 100 and scores a touchdown. That’s it!

Four Ways to Play This Football Math Game

One of my favorite things about this game is that you can use the same board with kids at several different math levels.

Counting Football Game

For younger children, use just one die. Roll the die, count the dots, and move that many spaces.

This version gives kids practice with counting and number recognition as they move along the 100 chart.

Addition Football Game

Roll two dice and add the numbers together.

For example: 4 + 3 = 7

Move your football player seven spaces down the field. This is an easy way to sneak in repeated addition fact practice without using another worksheet.

Subtraction Football Game

Roll two dice and subtract the smaller number from the larger number.

For example: 6 − 2 = 4

Move four spaces. Since kids are working with two randomly generated numbers each turn, they’ll get lots of quick mental subtraction practice as they play.

Multiplication Football Game

Older kids can turn it into a football multiplication game. Roll two dice and multiply the numbers.

For example: 4 × 5 = 20

Move 20 spaces down the field. Obviously, those players are going to race down the football field much faster! This makes the multiplication version a quick way to practice basic multiplication facts.

Using a 100 Chart for Math Practice

There’s another layer of math happening while kids play.

The football field is also a 100 chart, so children are seeing how numbers are organized from 1–100 as they move their pieces.

This one is organized a little bit differently than a regular hundred chart so it can be a game board. I have traditional printable hundred charts on my site as well, though!

As they play, you can ask questions like:

  • What number will you land on?
  • How far are you from 100?
  • Who is ahead? By how much?
  • How many more spaces do you need to score?
  • What patterns do you notice on the number chart?

Younger children may count each individual space, while older kids may begin using the number patterns to move more efficiently.

Both are useful math practice!

Make the Football Math Game More Challenging

Want to make the game a little harder?

Require players to land exactly on 100 to score a touchdown.

If a player’s answer would take them past 100, they stay in place and try again on their next turn.

You can also have kids predict where they’ll land before moving their game piece. This adds another bit of mental math to every turn.

Learning Through Sports

Sports can be a great way to connect math and science to something kids already care about.

Football in particular is filled with numbers—scores, yards, distances, statistics, angles, speed, and measurement.

A simple game like this can be especially helpful for a child who isn’t excited about traditional math practice but is very excited about football.

When learning connects to something kids are already curious about, math suddenly has a purpose.
