Egg cartons really do have so many wonderful uses. Years ago, we made this sweet little egg carton flower bouquet, and for some reason I never posted about it. I stumbled across the photos recently and thought—what better time than now? With spring in the air and sunshine returning, this simple recycled craft is a perfect way to welcome the season.
This spring flower craft for kids is fun, colorful, and easy to do with kids of all ages. Whether you’re looking for an afternoon activity, a handmade Mother’s Day gift, an Easter craft, or something to brighten up your homeschool or classroom, these egg carton flowers are a cheerful choice. I love using recycled materials for any craft activity.
Read on for the simple tutorial.

Supplies For the Egg Carton Flower Bouquet
-
1 cardboard egg carton (not styrofoam)
-
Newspaper or paper towels (for painting surface)
-
Pipe cleaners (green for stems or assorted colors)
-
Optional: glue, pom-poms, buttons, crepe paper, or stickers for flower centers

Instructions for the Spring Flower Craft:
-
Prep Your Carton – Cut the egg carton into individual cups. Each cup will become a flower.
-
Shape the Petals – Trim around the edges of each cup to make them look like petals. Try different styles—pointed, rounded, wavy—to create different types of flowers.
-
Paint the Flowers – Lay the cups open-side up on paper towels or newspaper. Let your kids paint them any way they like! Try painting the inside and outside different colors, or add dots, swirls, and stripes.
-
Let Them Dry – Once your flowers are painted, let them dry completely before adding stems.
-
Attach the Pipe Cleaner Stems – Poke a small hole in the bottom of each flower cup and thread a pipe cleaner through. Bend the tip over to hold it in place (this also makes a cute flower center), glue a pom-pom or make any kind of flower art in the center.
-
Display or Gift – Arrange your flowers in a small vase, mason jar, or wrap them in tissue paper to create a bouquet. These make adorable handmade gifts for Mother’s Day, spring birthdays, or just to brighten someone’s day!

-
Spring homeschool activity – Tie it into a plant or flower unit

-

-
Turn them into plant markers by labeling each flower with a garden name
