What Are CVC Words?
CVC stands for Consonant-Vowel-Consonant — simple three-letter words like bed, red, and ten.
These short words are often the first step kids take after mastering their letter sounds because:
-
They are phonetic and easy to sound out.
-
They build early reading and spelling confidence.
-
They lay the foundation for more complex word patterns later.
Many popular beginning reader series (like Bob Books or the adorable Dash into Reading sets) start with CVC words for this reason!

(Note: “Lef” might be a typo; if so, you might want to correct that in your product file to “Left” or replace it! Let me know if you want help with that too.)
Ways to Use the Word Mats:
-
Build the words with letter tiles, scrabble tiles, or magnet letters.
-
Write the letters in using a dry-erase marker (after laminating the mats).
-
Snack learning: Use alphabet cookies or Scrabble Cheez-It crackers to spell out the words — my kids love this method!
(Food + learning = double the fun and engagement!)
Ways to Use the Word Puzzles:
-
Cut apart the puzzles and mix them up for a fun challenge.
-
Use puzzles independently or alongside the mats for reinforcement.
