Candy Corn Counting Puzzles & Halloween Math Activities

Halloween is coming—the shelves at the store told me so!  As soon as candy corn starts appearing at Walmart and Target, I figure it’s officially time for some Halloween learning. Today it is Halloween math!Â
If you’re looking for an easy way to add a little seasonal fun to preschool or kindergarten math, these Candy Corn Counting Puzzles are perfect. Kids practice counting, number recognition, and number words while building cute candy corn-shaped puzzles.
The printable pack also includes a few extra candy corn activities for fine motor practice, tracing, cutting, and problem solving.
Candy Corn Counting Puzzles
The main activity in this Halloween math printable is a set of 10 candy corn counting puzzles.
Each three-piece puzzle helps kids connect three different representations of a number:
- A group of Halloween pictures to count
- The numeral
- The written number word
Kids count the objects and then find the numeral and number word that complete the candy corn.
This gives young learners practice connecting quantities, numerals, and number words instead of simply memorizing number symbols.
When I originally made these, my 4-year-old loved putting the puzzles together. She needed a little help with the number words, but she could count the pictures and match the numerals independently.
And that’s okay! The number-word piece gives the activity room to grow with your child.

Ways to Use the Candy Corn Counting Puzzles
There are several easy ways to use these printables at home or in the classroom.
Math center: Place the puzzle pieces in a basket and let kids match them independently.
Small-group math: Work together to count each set of objects before finding the correct number.
Number-word practice: For children who already know their numerals, focus specifically on matching the written number words.
Reusable puzzles: Print the puzzles on cardstock and laminate them so you can use them year after year.
Sensory bin: Hide the pieces in a fall or Halloween sensory bin and have kids find and assemble each candy corn.
You could even add a bowl of real candy corn and have kids count out the correct number of pieces for each puzzle. Obviously, whether those math manipulatives survive the lesson is another question.
